Consultancy and Training

If you are a funded organisation (eg a charity, NGO, social enterprise or your group is part of a wider network) then please see our consultancy and training programme for NGOs and Social Sector Organisations.

Seeds for Change Network works with grassroots groups involved in Environmental and Social Justice issues to help them organise for action and positive social change. One way we do this is by providing free workshops and training covering many aspects of campaigning work. When developing a workshop or training session we work closely with the group involved to find out in which way we can best provide support.

This might be through sharing practical skills - helping the group to develop a campaign strategy, giving a workshop on dealing with the press or how to start a new campaign / project.

Another important area is that of working in groups and community building. We offer workshops on group organisation, decision-making and group dynamics. At other times a group may already be experiencing internal problems. Conflicts between members, frustration at the lack of success, dwindling numbers, the question of where to go from here are problems every group experiences at some stage. Facilitation and support from outside can often help groups to overcome obstacles. Someone from outside can see things in a fresh way, help to facilitate group decisions and empower the group to get a project going again.

What workshops can we do ?

We like to work closely with groups and organisations to develop training based on individual needs. This means we don't have a set list of workshops that we do. To give you an idea of what we can do we've listed some themes and topics below.

Please have a look at our resources page too.

Working Together
Consensus decision-making,
Non-hierarchical structures,

Getting organised - the basics of setting up and maintaining a group
Planning a campaign: aims, strategy and tactics

Nothing interesting in the list ?

We design our workshops to fit the needs of your group. If there is anything not on this list, just ask and we'll be able to do it or put you in touch with the people who can.

Is there anything else we can offer ?

As well as workshops we have various publications and resources available to download.

How do we arrange training ? And what does it cost ?

We provide our training services for free to unfunded grassroots campaigners and activists. You will need to find a venue, be it a village hall, a tent at a festival or your own living room. Also we may need somewhere to stay overnight, and help with travel costs and some nice vegan food is always welcome. If you can afford to donate some money to help us cover our costs that's always appreciated!

Unfortunately because our time and resources are limited we are not able to do workshops with every group that wants our help. Even if we are able to do a workshop with your group it will help us a lot if you can plan ahead and contact us in good time to see if we can provide support in a timescale that suits your group. But please do contact us, even if you need support urgently - we may still be able to help.

We may also be able to help your group plan your own workshops - we can provide advice on workshop plans, tools to use, not to mention our resources.

In order to improve the situation we're actively looking for individuals or groups who would be interested in gaining skills and experience to help provide support to their own or other grassroots campaigns. If you are interested in helping to provide support then please contact us.

Finally, we do rely heavily on donations to provide this kind of support. We are asking groups to consider whether they can make a contribution to help us make ends meet. So if you've found our resources useful, or your group has enjoyed a workshop with us then please do think about helping us out with cash or material donations.

What if we can't provide training for your group ?

If we aren't able to provide training for your group you may wish to have a look at:

  • Tripod - training for creative social action from a collective based in Scotland.
  • Rhizome - training, facilitation, mediation and capacity building to support community activists and those organisations that work with them.
  • Turning the Tide - a Quaker programme promoting understanding and practice of active nonviolence.
